About DFE tech

DFE tech is locally owned and operated in Tyler, Texas and is the only Career School we Operate.

DFE tech is a public Career School as well as a corporate training facility for many Professional Drilling Fluids Companies.

DFE tech was legally registered with the State of Texas in Mid-2008.  DFE tech's first class began in November of 2008.

DFE tech's curriculum mirrors that of all three Major Fluids Companies and utilizes materials from the manuals of all three majors as well as others manuals and training materials.

DFE tech utilizes Technical, Practical, and Proprietary engineering training ( patent-pending and trademarked ). Our proprietary curriculum is the basis of the Mud Tech's Core Responsibility in the field and is not taught at any other Fluids School in the Industry. DFE tech's curriculum is focused primarily upon practical and technical aspects of drilling fluids engineering with secondary emphasis upon product & margin.

Rig acclamation is the only area that DFE tech cannot physically impart to our hands. Because of their specific training and knowledge, however, they require less OJT time than most other graduates require in order to stand alone.

When our students graduate & leave DFE tech they are prepared professionals, trained in details of proper fluids engineering...

After only three years of operation, DFE tech has graduates successfully working at all the major Fluids Companies and many minors and independents from Canada to Brazil.

The Instructor

The instructor at DFE tech has logged over 20 years in the field running many different fluid types.  The majority of the field work was in Deep Water in the Gulf Of Mexico.  In the field, he studied practical applications of formal engineering methods & calculations (patents pending). Another 10 years were spent in field operations, technical advisory, and formal training / instruction. He attended Mud School with IMCO Services and the majority of his career was spent working with Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids (Newpark - Milpark). Five years were spent in Kazakhstan consulting directly for Chevron/TCO monitoring Fluids Applications with MI Drilling Fluids on all locations.  Technical Land Operations & Fluids Training were a large part of the job description in Kazakhatan.  The TCO wells were deep, hot H2S wells in the Tengiz & Korelev fields on the north-east coast of the Caspian Sea.

Michael Rowden brings this training technique, experience, & patent  pending technology (MDRtm)to the forefront as the instructor at  DFE tech: TEXAS Career School

▼  Disclaimer

The State of Texas enacted a law for the association of state-registered engineers which states that unless a 4 year degree in a field of engineering such as 'electrical engineer', 'structural engineer', etc., has been obtained, one cannot use the term 'engineer' to refer to an occupation or title. Although throughout the Oilfield Industry since its inception, the Drilling Fluids Hand is commonly referred to as the 'Mud Engineer', the term 'engineer' may not be used in Texas if it  is not accompanied by a four year state approved  'engineering degree'. Therefore, the 'Mud Engineer' term (noun) used everywhere else in the industry except in Texas  will be referred to in this context as the
